Tourist visa to China (L Visa)
For tourism purposes, or to visit family or for friends or for other personal affairs.
Tourist visas for China are available for single entry or double entry only. Multiple entry visas are not granted for tourists.




Documents required for Chinese tourist visa
- Original passport with at least 6 months validity and at least 2 blank visa pages.
- Completed
Chinese Embassy Visa Application Form
signed & dated by the applicant.
- One recent colour passport photograph.*
* Please note that home-made digital photos or copied photos are not acceptable
Additional documents (as of April 15 2008):
- A copy of Chinese hotel booking if applicable
- A copy of outward and return flight ticket booking
- A copy of Chinese hotel booking(please note the applicants who are below 14 years old or born in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) as shown in the passport are not required to provide this);
If the applicant is going to stay at a relative or friend's home while visiting China, and therefore unable to provide hotel booking, an invitation letter containing the inviter's home address and telephone, and a copy of the inviter's ID card or residence permit should be provided instead.
Two types of Tourist Visas
- Single Entry visas to visit China are only valid for one-time entry and exit to and from China
- Double Entry visas to visit China are valid for two entries into China. A Double Entry visa to China would be required if your original entry is via the mainland but where you are also intending to travel beyond, for example Hong Kong, Macao or Tibet, with a view to returning
back to China before flying home.
Important notes:
- Chinese visas cannot be applied for more than three months in advance of the entry date.
- The length of China travel visa is determined by the Chinese Embassy.
- British citizens may visit Hong Kong as tourists for up to180 days without applying for a Chinese visa. If the visit to Hong Kong is for study, work or business purposes you must comply with the visa requirements for China. Travelers
to mainland China also require Chinese visa.
- UK, US and travelers of other 53 states may also visit Macao without a Chinese visa. Details of which nationals do not require China visa to travel to Macao can be found on the Identification Department of Macao web
